Can late night gigs and early morning training runs co-exist without killing a girl? Probably not. But as a certain long-perm-haired "rocker", for I use the term loosely, once said: "I'll sleep when I'm dead" ... or at least when I'm at work ... or on public transport, because you should never be too precious to sleep-dribble on someone else's shoulder.
Well at least the wonderful, cute as a fluffy bunny, plaided up, facial haired FAR TOO TALENTED FOR HIS OWN GOOD Andy Bull does. This is one of best Like A Versions I've heard in a long, long while.
People often never ask me what my favourite song is. Probably because they are asshats I don't have one, because that would be like having a favourite movie, and that's just far too difficult a choice.
Actually ... I do have a favourite movie. It's E.T.. So I guess I do have a favourite song, it's Under Pressure. I swear to God, 2.54 onwards changed my world and I'm not just saying that because it's Bowie.*
'Cause love's such an old fashioned word, and love dares you to care for the people on the edge of the night, and love dares you to change our way of caring about ourselves. This is our last dance. This is ourselves under pressure.
*Okay I AM just saying that because it's Bowie but shit man, it's BOWIE.
Also, this? This is the saddest scene in the entire universe. I can't even watch it now lest my keyboard spaz out from the salt flood that will result from "come ..... stay.....". Oh god. *slumps on desk*
TV On The Radio have just released a new album - Nine Types of Light - and on behalf of mankind I would like to say thank you. Will Do is the first single and it's gaw-juss.
You can also watch the album as a film here which is pretty damn clever don't you think? Here is their little explanation:
"Nine Types of Light is as much an album as it is a movie by TV on the Radio. The movie is meant to be a visual re-imagining of the record, and includes a music video for every song on the album. The band personally asked their friends and the filmmakers they admired to help direct the music videos. Tunde Adebimpe, the director for the full Nine Types of Light movie, storybooked the music videos together with interviews from local New Yorkers on various topics, including dreams, love, fame and the future. Tunde also directed the music video for Forgotten. Nine Types of Light, both the album and the movie are set to release on April 12, 2011."
Can we all just take a moment to bow down to the senior musical overlords for this most glorious moment of plaid-wearing magnificence? Can we? Bruce can strap his hands across my engines anyday. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS.
.... is that despite hearing this song a kazillion times I never really "got" it until this morning. Driving to work. Radio noisy. Quite what I "got" I just don't know. But I did. And for about four minutes it broke my heart a little bit.
Then I stopped and got a coffee and a puppy licked my foot and everything was right again. But still...
